Bringing Together a Remote Team

< Back to Blog
Is this Speakfully's first company-wide retreat away from Wisconsin?

This was technically the 2nd company-wide retreat.  We had one in January 2019, however, it was only with a few of us and was prior to us actually having a product, with half of the employees.

Why was getting the team together so important to you?

I think it’s really important to get everyone together to really get to know each other and create those connections that wouldn’t otherwise happen. This is especially true because we are an all remote team, making it more challenging to find ways to do that.

What were some of the highlights of the trip?

Really just being able to bond with the team and get to know each other on a different level. Was fun to be able to work all together in the same place.

How did you decide on Phoenix?

Since we have people in all different time zones within the US, we needed to try and find a location that would be easier to travel to for everyone, so because of that, and how cost effective it would be compared to other cities, we chose Phoenix.

Describe what it was like volunteering at a food bank.

It was awesome! I think it’s important for us to be able to give back as much as possible. What better way to do it then by taking some time during the retreat and doing it together as a team!

Any advice for other remote—or conventional!—teams thinking about planning an extended off-site?

Just make it happen!  I believe the memories and experiences you gain from it are invaluable and it really makes everyone understand each other better. Additionally, make sure you have a solid agenda and allow everyone to contribute to the time you have together.
